The Dragonets are Coming!

Book:
Wings of Fire: The Dragonet Prophecy
By: Tui T. Sutherland

Rating:
A whole book shelf! That is the best! Seriously!

Review:
One day, I got something in the mail. It was an invitation to my oldest's friend's birthday party. The party was going to be in Africa. Just kidding. It was going to be a Wings of Fire party. I did not know anything about Wings of Fire and decided to do some research - which meant read the book.

It is a good thing I read the book! It was AMAZING! And so was the party.

The book is amazing because:
1. There are dragons.
2. It happens in old times.
3. There is not just one kind of dragon. There are seven dragon tribes.
4. It is really interesting because these dragonets are trying to save the world. A dragonet is a young dragon.
5. There is a really annoying song in the book: The dragonets are coming.

The main characters are:

  • Clay: Clay is a Mudwing dragon. Fire does not harm him. He is quiet and he is a horrible fighter. He can hold his breath for up to one hour.
  • Tsunami: Tsunami is a Seawing dragon. She can literally sleep underwater because she has gills. In the beginning, Kestrel (a big guardian dragon) is beating up Clay. Tsunami hops into the flight and battles herself (even though it is a training match).
  • Sunny: Sunny is a Sandwing dragon. Like the Prophecy foretold, she was hidden away from the rival queens (Blister, Blaze, and Burn). She is the smallest of the dragonets and, unlike most Sandwings, she does not have a poison tail like a scorpion.
  • Glory:Glory is a Rainwing dragon. She is the quietest of the dragonets and can change the color of her scales, She technically should not be in the Prophecy but the Skywing egg was lost.
  • Starflight:Starfight is a Nightwing dragon. He is not old enough to read minds or tell the future yet. Like most Nightwings, he can sort of turn invisible in the darkness.

If you want to learn more about this book or buy it (it is $6.99 at Barnes and Noble), here it the author's web site:
TuiBooks. You can also go to this site - Scholastic Books - and take a quiz to see which dragonet you are.

Here are some things that happened at my friend's party (in case you want to have a Wings of Fire party too - you can use these as suggestions):
  1. We had to find the dragonet eggs - all six. To do this, we had to battle three dragon queens and dig up two other eggs. After we found the first five, we were given the sixth egg.
  2. We had to escape from a volcano. Don't worry - it was a water volcano, not a lava one. If you don't like kids, you could use real lava. If you use real lava, I am most defiantly not responsible if someone gets hurt.
  3. We played a game called Nightwings and Rainwings.
  4. We bashed a pretty snake shaped pinata.
  5. We had ice cream cake. And pizza. And soda.
  6. We used a tent as the Talons of Peace cave/headquarters. (My friend and I slept in the tent - outside - overnight!)
Have a booky night!

Oscar
