A Hobbit's Tale

Book:
The Hobbit
By: J. R. R. Tolkien

Rating:
A whole book shelf! That is the best! Seriously! I really, really like this book!

Review:
This story begins in Hobbit town and takes the reader across a good portion of Middle Earth to the Lonely Mountain. Along the way, we meet creatures such as Hobbits, Dwarves, Wizards, Elves, Orcs, Goblins, and Skin Changers.

The reason for this adventure is because one of the dwarves, Thorin Okenshield, wants to reclaim the treasure a dragon stole. The Hobbit, Bilbo, joins as the Burglar - his job is the burgle the treasure from the dragon.

During the book, I got sucked in to Middle Earth. I followed along as Bilbo went to the house of an Elf, turned trolls into stones, found a magic ring, battled goblins and orcs, flew with eagles, and rescued his friends from the Mirkwood elves. I was also there when Biblo retrieved the treasure and battled in the Battle of Five Armies.

If you like fantasy - like trolls and stuff - and have lots of time on your hands, this is a good choice. Since school is starting, you might consider this book for the winter break.

The main characters are:

  • Bilbo: Bilbo is a hobbit. A hobbit, according to J. R. R. Tolkien, is a fairly short mixture of a human and a dwarf. Their eating habits are fairly funny. Here it is: They eat about two of every meal! Bilbo changed a lot in this book. Most hobbits don't like adventures and aren't that brave.During the book, Bilbo turns into the exact opposite.
  • Gandalf: I don't know what species he is. I think he is human, but he may be a tall dwarf. No matter what, he is a wizard. He guides the adventure and he is sort of the one who provides the brains in the operations (until the Mirkwood).
  • Thorin: Thorin the a dwarf- the son of the King Under the Mountain. To make a long story short, he is the one who wants the operation to succeed - the motivator.
  • Smaug: This is the dragon. He is fierce and ugly. And mean. He killed Throin's grandfather and destroyed Lake Town..

Vampires Beware

What's this pizza place called?
The Garlic Know

Where is it?
Denver and Florida  - I went to one in Denver.

How can I find out more?
  • Old school: (303) 980 - 5668

What did you rate it Oscar?
1 slice - that is awful.

So, what is the review?
We ordered the pizza for delivery.
You have call them for delivery - you cannot order online and they do not have an app.

After my pop called, the pizza arrived quickly and blazing hot. The cheese was slanted to one side. Maybe a dragon breathed on it and blew the cheese to one side. I don't know.

Before I even tried tried the pizza, my mama was complaining that the crust was soggy and they charged three dollars more then the advertised price.

When I tried the pizza, it did taste like a cross between dragon breath and a rat's nest. Oh, and rotting cabbage. I don't recommend this pizza. Not at all.

A large 16 inch pizza is $12.99. That is the advertised price. That was enough for me and my brother to have dinner and lunch.

We got soda from the grocery store.

Have a cheesy day!

Big Sleepovers Need Big Daddys

What's this pizza place called?
Big Daddys Pizza

Where is it?
Utah and Denver, Co
We got ours delivered from the one on South Wadsworth.
My friend has one near his house Wadsworth.

How can I find out more?
  • Old school: (720) 279 - 9110

What did you rate it Oscar?
Eight slices - a whole pie.

So, what is the review?
The reason I had this pizza is because a friend came over to spend the night and play video games for five hours. At 5:30 the pizza delivery guy showed up with a cheese pizza for me and a pepperoni pizza for my friend. He still is my friend, even though he is a pepperoni fan.

We took the pizza downstairs and started. The pizza met our full expectations- melty cheese, chewy crust. The cheese had no bumps or lumps but was not completely smooth. My friend noticed the crust was smooth. The sauce was a little spicy but I guess I will have to get used to that.

It was a great pizza for playing video games.

Big Daddy's has a special - a 14" pizza with up to 5 toppings for $10.00. In my case, I think this is a pretty good deal.

We got soda from the grocery store.

Have a cheesy day!

The Dragonets are Coming!

Book:
Wings of Fire: The Dragonet Prophecy
By: Tui T. Sutherland

Rating:
A whole book shelf! That is the best! Seriously!

Review:
One day, I got something in the mail. It was an invitation to my oldest's friend's birthday party. The party was going to be in Africa. Just kidding. It was going to be a Wings of Fire party. I did not know anything about Wings of Fire and decided to do some research - which meant read the book.

It is a good thing I read the book! It was AMAZING! And so was the party.

The book is amazing because:
1. There are dragons.
2. It happens in old times.
3. There is not just one kind of dragon. There are seven dragon tribes.
4. It is really interesting because these dragonets are trying to save the world. A dragonet is a young dragon.
5. There is a really annoying song in the book: The dragonets are coming.

The main characters are:

  • Clay: Clay is a Mudwing dragon. Fire does not harm him. He is quiet and he is a horrible fighter. He can hold his breath for up to one hour.
  • Tsunami: Tsunami is a Seawing dragon. She can literally sleep underwater because she has gills. In the beginning, Kestrel (a big guardian dragon) is beating up Clay. Tsunami hops into the flight and battles herself (even though it is a training match).
  • Sunny: Sunny is a Sandwing dragon. Like the Prophecy foretold, she was hidden away from the rival queens (Blister, Blaze, and Burn). She is the smallest of the dragonets and, unlike most Sandwings, she does not have a poison tail like a scorpion.
  • Glory:Glory is a Rainwing dragon. She is the quietest of the dragonets and can change the color of her scales, She technically should not be in the Prophecy but the Skywing egg was lost.
  • Starflight:Starfight is a Nightwing dragon. He is not old enough to read minds or tell the future yet. Like most Nightwings, he can sort of turn invisible in the darkness.

If you want to learn more about this book or buy it (it is $6.99 at Barnes and Noble), here it the author's web site:
TuiBooks. You can also go to this site - Scholastic Books - and take a quiz to see which dragonet you are.

Here are some things that happened at my friend's party (in case you want to have a Wings of Fire party too - you can use these as suggestions):
  1. We had to find the dragonet eggs - all six. To do this, we had to battle three dragon queens and dig up two other eggs. After we found the first five, we were given the sixth egg.
  2. We had to escape from a volcano. Don't worry - it was a water volcano, not a lava one. If you don't like kids, you could use real lava. If you use real lava, I am most defiantly not responsible if someone gets hurt.
  3. We played a game called Nightwings and Rainwings.
  4. We bashed a pretty snake shaped pinata.
  5. We had ice cream cake. And pizza. And soda.
  6. We used a tent as the Talons of Peace cave/headquarters. (My friend and I slept in the tent - outside - overnight!)
Have a booky night!

The Pizza Egg

What's this pizza place called?
Red Robin

Where is it?
All over the US. I went to the one in Mission Trace.

How can I find out more?
  • Old school: (303) 989 - 8448

What did you rate it Oscar?
Seven slices  (That's fabulous but not as good as all.)

So, what is the review?
To get things straight, Red Robin is not really a pizza restaurant. It is a place for burgers and fries - or a burger restaurant. But there is a little pizza involved. It is on the kids menu. Its costs $4.49 and comes with a drink and a side. The pizza is very small - like dude. About 8 small slices. No leftovers.

The pizza itself did not meet my full expectations. It would have but some if it was overcooked, I could not would not eat two slices which meant I was not all the way full. The pizza that was not burned tasted perfect. They serve it in a basket that can be reused. The paper the pizza is on cannot be reused and I do not know if they recycle it.

I am giving Red Robin more slices than it deserves because the service was quick and good. Also the side (Mandarin oranges) and drink were good.

I had strawberry lemonade to drink.

Have a cheesy day!

A Bus Ride to Japan

Book:
Dragonbreath #2: Attack of the Ninja Frogs
By: Ursula Vernon

Rating:
A whole book shelf! That is the best! Seriously!

Review:
In my case, Dragonbreath: Attack of the Ninja Frogs is one of the funniest books I have ever read.If you like funny things like, well, pictures, giant frogs that say funny things, and mad scientists that sell fortresses to ninjas you'll probably like this book. At night, my mama had to tell me to toss the book down from my bed. This is a caution for you - don't read this book if your parents have a strict bedtime! Or put it in a safe at bedtime!!

The main characters are:

  • Danny: Danny is a dragon and he likes pepperoni pizza. In this book, he also likes ninjas. He is really funny and super weird. And he is a daydreamer.
  • Wendell: Wendell is an iguana. He is the brainiac of the mission. He is really crazy because he runs at a giant Komodo dragon!!!
  • Suki: Suki is a salamander. And a girl!  (What is up! There are two boys and a girl in most books!) She is an exchange student from Japan. She is really funny too! I would say everyone in the book is funny. She is also related to a warrior named Leaping Sword (Read the book to find out more - seriously!)

This book takes place in the winter during school time. I like it because
  • Mind blowing things happen.
  • It is a graphic novel.
  • The characters say wacky things.
If you want to learn more about this book or buy it (it is $10.99 at Amazon), here it the author's web site:

Hey - if you don't want to spend $10.99, I borrowed my copy from the library.

Famous Pizza

What's this pizza place called?
Joyce's Famous Pizza

Where is it?
2120 S.Broadway, Denver, CO 80210

How can I find out more?
  • Old school: (303) 777-4992

What did you rate it Oscar?
Half a pie (That's really good but not as good as some.)

So, what is the review?
There's regular pizza and there is famous pizza. If you get a choice, go for famous pizza because really, really good.

I went after Kids Stage and I was starving. When I walked in, there were red and white tiles and chalkboards above the counter with the menu. There were photos of New York City on the walls and a replica of the Statue of Liberty. This is a New York style pizza place so that is my guess why they have all this New York style stuff.

A small cheese pizza is $9.99. Me and my brother split this and I had enough for lunch. When I saw the pizza I was like "This is going to be really really good." And it was as good as I thought. There were hardly any bumps on the pizza. In my case, that is good. The crust was chewy and thick. The sauce was smooth. The cheese was even and looked delicious.

I cannot give this pizza place full marks because the pizza was so hot when it came to the table. Also, the sauce was a little spicy. Also,k the windows face West and there was a lot of light pouring in. It hurt my eyes. Also, they use paper plates and plastic silverware. This can hurt marine animals. And they did not have a recycle bin.

I had a coke to drink.

Have a cheesy day!

A Quest to Save the World

Book:
The Copernicus Legacy Book 1: The Forbidden Stone
By Tony Abbott

Rating:
Second to best

Review:
If you are looking for a good summer book about a quest, the first book in the Copernicus Legacy series - The Forbidden Stone - might be the book for you.

In this book, four kids and their dad go off to Germany for a funeral of their uncle. They find out that their uncle left them a mysterious letter about something called the Copernicus Legacy. They need to find twelve relics to rebuild the Copernicus Legacy. If the bad guys get the legacy before they do, the earth is highly likely to be destroyed.

The main characters are:

  • Wade: Wade was adopted by a professor from Austin. He really like space and math and his family. Wade is my favorite character.
  • Lily: Lily is like my sister. She never shut up in the whole book and is really into her clothes. But she is smart too, just like my sister. My sister would not do too well on the quest though. She would be freaked out in her mind when they find the first relic. (Read the book to find out why!)
  • Darrell: Darrell is the mystery guy in the book. He always suspects people and has weird ideas. He is also a goofball.
  • Becca: Her head is always in a book learning things. She is like Hermoine Granger from the Harry Potter series.
This book takes place in the summer. I like it because:
  • It takes place in Europe and is kind of mysterious.
  • It is sort of scary and the heat might drive away your fear.
I so want to read the other books in the series. You will too.

If you want to learn more about this book or buy it (it is $14.32 at Barnes and Noble), here it the author's web site:

Hey - if you don't want to spend $14.32, I borrowed my copy from the library.

Perfect Pizza

What's this pizza place called?
Romano's Italian Restaurant

Where is it?
5666 S Windermere St, Littleton, CO 80120

How can I find out more?
  • Old school: (303) 798-4944

What did you rate it Oscar?
1 whole pie! (That's very, very good!)

So, what is the review?
Amazing! Delicious! PIZZA!!!!

Romano's pizza gets full marks because of the chewy crust, fine sauce, and the evenly distributed melty cheese. The pizza tastes better than it looks. When I first saw the pizza I thought "What! Did they cook this in a volcano?" Then, I took a bite and it was DELICIOUS! The sauce was not spicy. My tongue jumped up and down with happiness.

Kids, if you want this pizza order from the adult menu. There is no pizza on the kids menu. I was shocked about this!

When I was there, a small pizza was $8.99. I ate five slices and had enough to bring home for lunch.

I drank root beer. It was really good as well.

If you don't like the cold bring a coat or send your pet penguin to get take out. In other words it is chilly inside. The window blinds were down and no sun came in to warm up the place.

The last thing you should know the chairs are uncomfortable. Very uncomfortable.

Have a cheesy day!

Who am I? And why should you read this blog??

Hello. My name is Oscar. I have eaten TONS of pizza and you can trust me. I have read more books than I have eaten pizza. So you can also trust my book reviews.

Me eating pizza in Texas.I ate 8 slices. Myself.

I am 9 years old. I live in Denver, Colorado. I live with my mama and pop and twins (a brother and a sister). My brother has spina bifida and has braces. My sister is really loud and can be bossy.

You should expect a book review from me every Monday and a pizza review every Friday. You should expect all the reviews to be mine. No one pays me to for the reviews (But if you want to pay me, send me a note!).

A good pizza has melty cheese and a chewy crust. It does not have brown spots and the cheese is even. The crust does not have a lot of of bubbles and the pizza has nothing on it except sauce and cheese. NO PEPPERONI ALLOWED!

A good book has a good beginning. It also has a bad guy that comes back from the near dead and a hero to send him back to wherever he came from. I like other books too.

Other than eating pizza and reading I like bike riding and playing video games.

I hope you can eat the pizza I review here and read the books too - they are going to be good!

Have a cheesy day! And a booky night!
